From undervalued space to new opportunities

Ridley Road Shopping Village isn’t working as it should.

The Shopping Village is incomplete and has been left in limbo for years.

There has been little consistent management, no clear identity, and limited support for traders to properly operate and grow.

It is not currently structured to support the communities that rely on it. Particularly the Black and Global Majority traders who define Ridley Road today.

A practical approach to bringing Ridley Road Shopping Village back into use

Following a change in the council’s position on the lease, the building has been retained for internal use without a clear, deliverable plan for how it moves forward.

This proposal sets out a practical, community-led approach to getting the Shopping Village functioning properly — stabilising the market, supporting traders, and creating a more consistent and community-rooted indoor environment.

It is focused on building something that works in practice, while giving traders a stronger presence in how the market is shaped over time.
